Memoir Prompt - Answer the following: Do you have a mentor? Are you a mentor for someone? Tell about your relationship.


Do i have a mentor? thats an excellent question. "a trusted counselor or guide". well, looking at it that way, i'm inclined to simply say.. i have best friends. like real best friends. best friends who love me and who care about what happens to me. best friends that teach me about.. people. and life. and about myself. that help me make decisions. and i trust them.
do i have mentor in the typical sense of the word? no, not really.. no one that i would call, consider, or label my mentor.
am i a mentor? well.. thats also a good question. i don't have any relationships with people younger than me, that i know of. but if someone considers me to be their mentor, i am certainly pleased and flattered by that!

i find these memoir prompts to be kind of difficult.. or interesting.

Memoir Prompt - Record the history of items you consider to be family heirlooms. The heirloom doesn't have to be valuable, so long as it is important to the family.


well, my family doesn't really have many heirlooms actually... all of my grandparents were lower middle class or lower class their whole lives, and so they were never very material-oriented, you know?
i think mostly we just have old furniture and old clothes.. and old jewelry i guess. umm but we have.. an organ. that is my grandparents. and other like.. plates and lamps and stuff.. but really the only thing that we have like that is my mom's cameo ring that used to be my great-aunt's. it will be mine sometime.

my family really just cares about family time, not family things. so.. yeah.
our true heirlooms are the memories we have of being with each other... stories that have been passed down; like of when my grandma was in elementary school. or when my grandpa got a bunch of random people together at some mine so that they could get a cheaper group rate. just great stories:)

Memoir Prompt - What do you enjoy about your life?

i enjoy the fact that asking me that question makes me feel slightly overwhelmed with the endless possibilities of answering it. i enjoy each and every person that is in or has been in my life, and everything that i can learn from them. i enjoy my privileges that i have been given in life. i enjoy the place i live; my room, my house, my neighborhood, my town, my state:) i enjoy that i have never experienced true huge horrible devastating loss. i enjoy that i have come close enough to know what real raw fear feels like; real true sadness; and therefore i feel pure joy as well. i enjoy the intellect that i have been given, and the immense possibilities that it opens for me and my futuree. i enjoy my abilities, and i most definitely enjoy my talents:) i enjoy the talents of those around me. i enjoy passion and emotion and feelings. i enjoy my ability to empathize, but also my ability to rationalize.
i enjoy the earth. i enjoy delving into other people, whether through them or through something that they have created. i enjoy my religion and everything along with it.

i enjoy living. i enjoy life. i enjoy me.

the latest group i joined on facebook. it makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. here i have reprinted it for your convenience with my own personal comments. :)

You Know You're an AP Student When...

1.You know AP actually stands for “Advanced Procrastinator.”
--unfortunately its the only way to function since you only do enough work to cover your ass for the next day
2.You could have done your homework at home but you prefer the pressure of getting it done two periods before its due.
--or you just wanted to sleep for a change at home..
3.Studying consists of furiously glancing over your notes the period before the test.
--yep.
4.“Not a lot of homework” means: 10 chemistry problems, calc homework (that you won’t do anyways), a 15 page story to read in the Lit book, and studying for a French quiz.
--yep. that is def not a lot of homework.
5.You don’t think of it as “cheating”, you think of it as “cooperative learning.”
--when your teachers actually LET you 'cooperative learn' because they're afraid you're going to have a breakdown..
6.The weekend before mid-terms or finals you don’t start studying until Sunday at seven or eight PM.
--what are midterms and finals? there are other things besides ap tests?
7.You have multiple breakdowns throughout the year from school-related stress.
--oh hell yes.
8.You know senior project is a joke and intend on putting forth as little effort as possible.
--since we don't even have to do it..
9.On top of your full schedule, you’re involved in several extra-curricular activities and you have a job.
--hahahahahhaahah. oh god.
10.Every extra-curricular activity you sign up for is framed with the words “It’ll look good for college.”
--yes.
11.Senioritis set in during the last few weeks of 11th grade.
--more like the FIRST few weeks of 11th grade
12.You’re convinced summer work was invented as a form of torture.
--ehh not so much on this one.
13.You sign up for a class because it’s weighted, not because the subject interests you.

27. People ask you how you manage an AP class you just say "It's easy" when on the inside you are screaming bloody murder.

28. You watch TV or do other random things until 10pm then complain the next day about doing homework at 2am.

so i was just looking at my friends page, which is the only thing i usually check on here anyway, and i saw that i had a comment on my last entry and when i clicked on it i saw the title of my journal and the subtitle quote.

i used quotes in my titles to remind me why i check them and why i have this journal and whats important, but i forgot about the one on my personal journal because all i ever see is my friends page.

its just what i needed: "Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows."

I LOVE RELAY FOR LIFE♥

i love the feeling of sleeping in until 3 oclock and realizing that i just wasted a day of my life.

i love crying, and crying with people.

i love working to do something that matters.

i love getting home and feeling nasty and grimy and covered in dew and realizing that i really did stay up outside for 15 hours.

i love knowing that i was a part of something much, much bigger than myself.

i love eating caramel apples at 3:30 in the morning.

i love having ridiculously long conversations about random things with random people.

i love seeing what people are like when they've been awake for wayyy too long.

i love laughing so hard tears are streaming down my face.

i love rolling around on the ground, only to get up and realize i have astroturf all over me, and laughing at that too.

i love yelling across football fields just to say hi to someone walking, or to ask them to bring you something, or whatever it is.

i love rain.

i love supporting my friends in their various extra-curricular activities.

i love full arced rainbows.

i love community and fellowship.

i love the feeling of God's presence.
